SEPTIMUS SEVERUS…..Was Rome’s first African born Emperor…..founder of the Severan Dynasty which ruled from 193.235 CE……Severus reshaped Rome into a more centralized militarized state…..his dynasty consisted of his wife Julia Doman of Syria….the famous Caracalla, Geta, Elaga Cbalus and Severus Alexander…..would rule for decades after him…..his African heritage and multicultural family made him a symbol of Rome’s vast diverse empire.
IN THE 15th CENTURY….European explorers reached West Africa and were stunned…..before them stood Benin City…..with walls longer than the Great Wall of China….wide streets lit by lamps and advanced drainage systems…..Dutch trader Alfred Dapper wrote….. “It was more impressive than most European cities”…..this wasn’t the uncivilized Africa Europe expected….it was a kingdom that rivaled the best of its time.
THEY TOOK…..Sixty-eight thousand people and sterilized them without consent…..and it was completely legal….this was about American eugenics and the program that inspired Adolf Hitler….in the early 1900’s America launched a government backed movement to eliminate people they considered undesirable…..the poor, the mentally ill, immigrants, the Blacks, Native Americans….scientists and politicians convinced themselves they could engineer a perfect society by preventing certain people from having children…..thirty two states in America passed forced sterilization laws …..judges ordered sterilizations the same way they ordered prison sentences…..patients in mental hospitals and institutions were sterilized without being told what was happening to them…..women went in for appendix operations and came out unable to have children forever…..then Hitler took notes when the Nazi Party came into power and began building their own eugenics program in the 1930’s…..they studied American laws directly…..Hitler basically praised American legislation in his writings…..Nazi scientists cited American research at the Nuremburg trials. As justification for what they did to the Jewish people…..America basically created the blueprint for the Holocaust and sat in judgement of the ones who used it……and then the Supreme Court approved it…..in 1921 the court ruled eight to one that forced sterilization was constitutional…..Justic Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote…. “Three generations of Imbeciles are enough.”…..the ruling was never fully overturned.
THE WORLD…..Under White rule often described as “White supremacy”…..is a historical and contemporary structure where Caucasian people hold systemic, economic, and political dominance….this is something that’s rooted in the ideology of European superiority…..this system was enforced through colonialism, the Atlantic slave trade and apartheid….it established a global racial order where White life is often prioritized….and leads to the exploitation and marginalization of people of color….with lasting impacts on wealth distribution and social hierarchies….something that still exists till this day….key aspects of this system include….historical foundations…..systemic power…..global inequality….White privilege and legacy….the concept of whiteness itself is considered an invented concept….that evolved over time rather than a fixed, biological reality….and there you have it….I hope you enjoyed your “White History Month.”…..and I’m looking forward to the first day of April next year….so the “Fool” who still thinks it’s a wonderful idea to have a month dedicated to White history.
