JOHN CAZALE…. Appeared in only five feature films during his lifetime…..and remarkably, every single one was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture…..the films were The Godfather (1972)…..The Conversation (1974)…..The Godfather Part II (1974), Dog Day Afternoon (1975)…..and The Deer Hunter (1978)…..three of them, both Godfather films and The Deer Hunter, went on to win Best Picture…….Cazale died of lung cancer in March 1978 at age 42…..after completing his scenes for The Deer Hunter but before the finished film was released…..in 1990, archive footage of Cazale as Fredo Corleone was used uncredited in The Godfather Part III, which was also nominated for Best Picture…..his short film career produced a remarkable Oscar-related streak…..with all five feature films in which he gave original performances earning Best Picture nominations……I have all those films….and don’t remember him being in The Conversation and that is one of my top fifty films…..great excuse to watch it again.
DID YOU KNOW….the Coney Island Cyclone Rollercoaster turns….99-years-old this year?…..I’m not sure but I think it’s one of the few “wooden rollercoasters” in America…..I was trying to remember the last time I was hangin’ out in Coney Island….sorry, I don’t remember the password to that memory.
I JUST LEARNED….That Arctic means “Bears”…..and Antarctic means “No bears”…..and this actually has nothing to do with the fact that there are bears…..in the Arctic and no bears in Antarctica…..and it has to do entirely with whether or not you can see the polar bear constellation from either of those places.
