ANNIE LEIBOVITZ DIDN’T WANT TO MAKE A PHOTO BOOK ABOUT WOMEN…..But they say the results are stunning…..ok, one…..anyone can make a stunning book about anyone…..when you have a bunch of assistants….setting up the lights, constructing the set…..take test shot to see if the light balance is correct…..shoving those results in your face hoping for your approval….and all she does is show up on the set….look at everything….press the shutter….and walk away…..yeah folks,….that’s how it works….and I bet and I could be mistaken and I’m probably not…..I bet there is not one photo of a Black women in that book…..if there is….there’s no way she lit the model correctly…..during her entire career I have yet to see her correctly light Black skin…and during her career she’s proven she can’t…..just “MY” opinion…I think she’s way overrated……when you have a staff doing 90% of her work….that isn’t creating….35mm camera….a Hasselblad…..stock loaded film…..adjusted a 4 by 5 or an 8 by 10 camera under a hood….developed film in a darkroom…..and print….that’s photography…..I know she did that in the beginning of her career…..I’m sure she doesn’t now, unless it’s just for fun…..everything is digital now….and “THAT”…..is not photography…..that’s paint by numbers….9 million chances to get “the shot”…..and then you paint to make it pretty…..nah, photography is when….you have only 12 shots…..no auto-focus….to get “the shot”…..go into a darkroom…..develop the film….wait until the negatives dry…..do a test print….stick your hands in developer chemicals……pick up the print and transfer it to the stop bath…..and throw in the fixer……and see if your grey scale looks good….. “THAT” is photography…..not the AI digital stuff now shoved in your face…..you want to see what real photography looks like…..buy Mary Street Alinder’s book called…. “Group F.64”…..or look at the great works of….Gordon Parks….Robert Capa….Dorothea Lange….Ansel Adams…….Richard Avedon….Edward Steichen….Paul Strand…..Henri Cartier-Bresson….WeeGee……Sebastiao Salgado….Yousuf Karsh…..Diane Arbus….Alfred Stieglitz….Man Ray….Cindy Sherman……Irving Penn…..Edward Weston….now that’s photography!…..I’m not really an Andy Warhol fan either…..but it was nice to run into him at Area…..and hangout for a minute….the one thing I did like about him was…..he always had a camera.

OH REALLY?….I found this….have you ever wondered why food tastes bland on a plane?….it’s not the chef….at 30,000 feet, low cabin pressure and extremely low humidity…..dull your sense of taste for sweet and salty foods by 30%…..your brain perceives flavor differently in the dry, pressurized air of the flight…..making meals seem less flavorful…..oh bullshit….I’ve eaten meals on many different flights….and they all have one thing in common…..the meals taste like blah…..I can’t speak for First Class meals…..but if you’re sitting in the back of the bus…..crap!….bring back those meals Pam Am used to serve back in the day….where they carve the turkey right in front of you……if I have to pay like $1,400 for a return flight pond jump….I deserve better.
