…..It’s just a four-day road trip but it’s worth it…..I’m going to introduce you to the Puglian Coastline…..now, you fly into Bari, Italy….nice city….been there….rent a car and follow SS-16 along the Adriatic Sea….to Polignano a Mare….the limestone cliffs and the whitewashed houses are amazing….have lunch at Osteria di Chichibio….the seafood is worth dying for….burp….and then drive south to Ostuni….it’s a hilltop city built like a maze….you can also see the cave paintings in Santa Maria di Agnano….or stay in Ostuni and have a drink at Riccardo Caffè….then finish your day in Lecce….and check into La Fiermontina and have a good night’s sleep….the food and bar is cool…..view is stunning……I’ll give you your next day travel itinerary…..tomorrow.
WHEN WE CAN TRAVEL AGAIN, YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS….DAY 2…..Now that you’ve spent a wonderful night in Lecce….before you go…check out the morning sunlight on Lecce’s Baroque di Santa while you sip on an espresso at Caffè Alvino….or put on your swimsuit for a quick dip at the Grotta della Poesia…and walk down the white-sand beach in Torre dell´ Orso….you’ll probably be hungry by now….so drive down to Otranto and have a meal at L´Altro Baffo….burp….and then take a slow stroll through the medieval city….further south is the Punta Palascia lighthouse….it’s situated at Italy’s easternmost point where the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian meet….you can spend the night in Gagliano del Capo at Palazzo Daniele….it’s a beautiful place with restored 19th-century frescoes on the walls for you to admire….sleep tight….more to see of Italy in the morning.
WHEN WE CAN TRAVEL AGAIN; YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS….DAY 3…..Buongiorno….wake up….time to go…..so, you’re going to drive around the boot to Gallipoli….that’s a port city whose old town is connect to the mainland by a bridge…..definitely walk around the old town….and check out the paper-maché figurines they’re known for….or find a nice spot and eat a bowl of zuppa di pesce alla Gallipolina…that’s fish soup in case you don’t know…..burp….and then stroll down the shore of the Gulf of Taranto…..and explore the fish markets of Porto Cesareo….you can even spend a few euros on a boat trip to the nearby island beaches….here’s the best part of the day…..Crispiano is the place you want to spend the night…..and Masseria Amastuola Wine Resort is your spot for the night….it’s surrounded by vineyards, farms and century-old olive groves….see you in the morning….buona notte.
WHEN WE CAN TRAVEL AGAIN; YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS…..DAY 4…..Now that you’ve had your morning coffee….you have to head north towards Alberobello….which is a UNESCO site known for its 1,500 trulli…..conical prehistoric huts that now house restaurants, bars shops and private homes….there are even walking tours that reveal the history of what many consider fairytale structures….and don’t forget to taste some of the local specialty dishes while you’re there…..when you finally arrive in Savelletri…..definitely check into Borgo Egnazia…..it’s a luxury resort designed to resemble a traditional Italian village….with six restaurants, three bars, a golf course….and a private beach….trust me….it’s the perfect place to hangout for a few days…..before you start your drive back to Bari….so be safe….stay healthy…do your best to protect yourself against COVID….please wear a mask……and maybe…..just maybe…..we can meet for dinner and drinks at….Grotta Palazzese next year.
