…..Oh I’m definitely going to try and find this place the next time we’re home.….ain’t nothing like Grandma’s cooking…..Enoteca Maria is a restaurant on Staten Island..…and the owner….Jody Scaravella came up with this idea 12 years ago.….after losing his grandmother, mother and sister..…all within a few years of each other…..he posted an ad in the newspaper seeking..… “Italian housewives to cook regional dishes”……now the restaurant has a rotating staff of grandmother’s from 30 different places from around the world…..Palestine, the Czech Republic, Argentina, Nigeria and Algeria to new a few..….they’re known as “Nonnas”..….which is Italian for grandmas……and they take turns in cooking traditional recipes from their respective cultures.….offering patrons a chance to experience new dishes every night…..now, people come from all over the world to try their century old recipes.….Jody gets phone calls from people in Australia, England, Italy…..to book a dinner reservation…..and those of you living in Manhattan…..the Staten Island ferry stop is right down the block from the restaurant.….the grandmas love cooking..…some of them live on Staten Island…..and some come from Brooklyn, the Bronx and even New Jersey…..you have to admit..….old-world dishes cooked with family secret ingredients beats fast-food any day.
