HOW COUPLES CAN KEEP IT POPPIN’ IN FRANCE’S CHAMPAGNE REGION…..This article is for couples who want to honeymoon in the region….which is a great idea…..because it is a beautiful area…..their suggestions are honeymoon money rip-offs though…..they want you to start your trip in Reims…..you should end in Reims…..not start…..their first suggestion is to stay at Ruinart…..one of the oldest established Champagne houses…..when a place offers you a two hour tour of their cellars for $75 bucks?…..nah, pass…..the other choice is to take a shorter underground tour of the cellars of Veuve Clicquot…..this will run you about $32 bucks…..and they’ll throw in a picnic on the grounds for….$75 bucks…..nah again…..and then this article goes on saying…..the young people hang here…..you should shop Le Pressoir and Les Caves du Forum…..and more stuff you don’t need to do in the region…..look,…..how about this…..if you’re coming from Paris…..take the A4 to exit #18……from Germany…..also hop on the A4 from the other end…..and follow Chálons en Champagne…….to Cháteau d’Etoges…..been there and stayed there…..a beautiful place…..rooms are wonderful….and dining to die for…..don’t forget to sample the cheese cart…..with a glass of wine..……here’s the thing…..those tourist online sites…..there’s lots of stuff they don’t tell you….sure, they’ll point you in the direction of the sponsors they cater to..….but the cool part about being in the region is…..damn near “EVERYONE” makes champagne…..and you can drive to a vineyard…..and sit and taste…..some places charge you some cash…..but many homes let you taste……and you can buy different cases of champagne from different vineyards……they’re everywhere……here’s one of my favorite mom and pop joints…..hang a left out of Etoges……drive up and hang your first right…..keep driving past the vineyards…..follow the road around the curve……and when you see the beautiful church in front of you…..hang a left…..drive on until you see the abandon Cháteau on your left……the one behind the ivy in closed wall…..then hang your first left…..drive up…..right…..then your second left and stop in front of the gray house on your right at the top of the hill…..mom and her sons are so cool…..and pop will give you a free tour of the basement…..explain to you why champagne has to be rotated…..why they hire a guy to actually do that….he’ll definitely let you know….any champagne which is less than five-years old…..like Moet, Dom and Veuve…..is shit……don’t know how to say it in French….or, if you hang a right out of Etoges…….first left……up to the traffic light and hang a right……cross the railroad tracks….turn left…..you’ll see another home on your left.….this family was great…..while I was tasting…..mom was bring food to eat….and dealing with the household chores…..and screaming at her kids running around…..you wanted to taste something…..she put the bottle on the table……not a glass…..the entire bottle…..run right back into the house……and scream at one of her kids…..I loved that family……bought a bunch of cases from her……so, for honeymooners…..well couples period…..it’s a very beautiful area..….if you’re coming to shop for champagne, great…..if you want to drink some and keep on vacationing…..even better…..keep going south…..I like the French cuisine much better in the south than the north……there’s a great restaurant in Biarritz…..but that’s another story…….oh, almost forgot…..Reims…..one reason to definitely stop in the city..….is to see the church…..the one that has original stained glass windows designed by Marc Chagall hanging everywhere…..and right across the street from the church is a café……have a nice meal…..and wash it down with a bottle of Crystal or Krug……or drink the local champagnes…..you know, the real stuff!
