BLOOD TYPES AND THE RISK OF COVID-9

Pay Attention….ok?….there are four major blood groups: A, B, AB, and O…..according to the American Red Cross…..individuals with type A blood are slightly more likely to test positive for Covid-19 than those with AB and O blood…..the blood can also be typed by checking the Rhesus (Rh) factor…..this is an inherited protein on the surface of red blood cells, and you either have it…..Rh positive….or you don’t (Rh negative)….. Rh positive is the most common type, so the low numbers of Rh-negative patients made it hard to draw any conclusions…..all blood groups are susceptible to infection by SARS-CoV-2, and the tests ran on several people saw incubation and death among people of all blood groups,…….a study conducted in March 2020 in Wuhan, China, where the disease began, researchers compared different blood types of over 2,173 people diagnosed with Covid-19 to those living within the general population…..they found out that blood group A had a significantly higher risk for Covid-19 compared with non-A blood groups, and blood group O had a significantly lower risk for the virus compared with non-A blood groups….new research strongly hinted that infected people with type A blood are much more likely to need oxygen and a ventilator……especially compared to people with type O-positive and negative…..this information comes from one of the largest genetic studies of severe Covid-19 to date.…. researchers analyzed blood samples from 1,610 patients who needed oxygen or were put on a ventilator and then compared them to 2,205 blood donors without Covid-19…..the researchers found two genetic variations that left people more vulnerable to the ravages of coronavirus infection…..and one of the variations was near the gene that determines ABO blood type…..after comparing Covid-19 outcomes for the groups, the researchers discovered that infected people with type A blood were 50 percent more likely to need oxygen or a ventilator…..people with type O were the least likely to experience respiratory failure…..(note that the research isn’t published yet and is still undergoing the peer-review process.)…… it’s way too early to say if blood type plays any role in susceptibility to this virus…..this is the opinion of Benjamin Singer, MD…..(an assistant professor in pulmonary and critical care at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago)…… “It is interesting to measure blood types, but the significance is unclear and outstripped by other risk factors……type O may offer a slight protection and type A may confer a slight increase in risk, but these are small changes against the larger backdrop of other risks such as age and history of underlying disease.”…..remember, that’s Dr. Singer opinion…..still, your blood type is powerful health information……it may not shed light on Covid-19 risk, but it can tell you more about your chances of developing potentially life-threatening blood clots and heart disease……not to mention your ability to donate blood to those in need…..donations of O negative blood can be used in transfusions for any blood type ……researchers have collected data from more than 20,100 Covid-19 patients admitted to hospitals in England, Wales, and Scotland and found that the average age of patients admitted to the hospital with Covid-19 is 73 years…… “Age really outshines every other risk factor that has been identified,” …..that’s Dr. Singer’s singing again……and…..more men were admitted to the hospital than women in this report……although some risk factors can’t be changed……such as gender or blood type….others, such as weight, are modifiable…..but a key finding in this study is that obesity is an emerging risk factor for severe Covid-19 infection…..researchers suspect this is a result of reduced lung function or inflammation tends to connect with obesity…….underlying lung and heart disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, as well as any conditions that affect your immune system can also increase risk for developing a more serious course of Covid-19…..and that last point was the opinion of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)……so, O people…..they’re saying our chances of catching COVID-19 are….LOW….they are not saying we are….IMMUNE to the virus….so continue to wash your hands….keep a safe distance….and stay away for stupid people who have no idea….or just don’t care….and that last warning goes out to……EVERYONE!

AUNT JEMIMA BRAND TO BE CHANGED OVER ORIGINS IN RACIAL STEREOTYPE…..So what now….you ‘re going to call it…..syrup?….I  mean it took you decades to give the lady a perm….and take that doo-rag off her head….so, who’s next?….Uncle Ben?….ok, take his face away and put “Uncle Tomin’ Ben Carson’s face on the box….I can live with that…..are we gonna do the Washington Redskins next because that logo is long overdue……here are a few you might’ve forgotten about…..at least someone thought it was a good idea to get rid of… “Darkie Toothpaste”….and the smiling brother on the….. “Cream of Wheat” boxes…..I never like that crap anyway…..fake grits….. “Chiquita Bananas” got rid of the typical images of a Hispanic woman selling bananas….and replaced the image with a sexy looking banana…..remember the…. “Frito Bandito”…..I hope a Mexican drug cartel knocked on the door of that advertising company….. “Eskimo Pies”…..they still haven’t changed that…..til this day….and that name has been around since 1921…… “Chief Wahoo”…..you Cleveland Indians (Major League Baseball team) need to join the Redskins and seriously get rid of those racist images….. “Sambo’s”….yeah remember that restaurant….don’t worry, they went bankrupt in 1981….. “Funny Face Drink Mix”…..the company had the nerve to make a cherry..…look like a Chinese person…. “Crazy Horse Malt Liquor”…..I assume that was a new and insulting way to market “fire water”….. “Land O’ Lakes Butter”…..they took the Native-American woman’s face off the package….but didn’t give back the land.

NANCY GREEN: AUNT JEMIMA….Nancy Green was born into slavery on November 17, 1834, near Mount Sterling in Montgomery County, Kentucky…..she was hired in 1890 by the R.T. Davis Milling Company in St. Joseph, Missouri, to represent “Aunt Jemima”……an advertising character named after a song from a minstrel show…..Davis Milling had recently acquired the formula to a ready-mixed, self-rising pancake flour from St. Joseph Gazette editor Chris L. Rutt and Charles Underwood…..and was looking to employ an African-American woman as a Mammy archetype to promote their new product…..in 1893, Green was introduced as Aunt Jemima at the World’s Columbian Exposition held in Chicago, where it was her job to operate a pancake-cooking display……her amicable personality and talent as a cook for the Walker family, whose children grew up to become Chicago Circuit Judge Charles M. Walker and Dr. Samuel Walker, helped establish a successful showing of the product, for which she received a medal and certificate from the Expo officials……after the Expo, Green was offered a lifetime contract to adopt the Aunt Jemima moniker and promote the pancake mix……this marked the beginning of a major promotional push by the company that included thousands of personal appearances and Aunt Jemima merchandising……Nancy Green maintained her job with Davis Milling (which was renamed “Aunt Jemima Mills Company” in 1914) until her death in 1923…….and she was still working as Aunt Jemima at the time…….her career allowed her the financial freedom to become an activist and engage in antipoverty programs……she was one of the first African-American missionary workers…..she used her stature as a spokesperson to become a leading advocate against poverty and in favor of equal rights for individuals in Chicago……Green died on August 30, 1923, in Chicago when a car collided with a truck and flipped over onto the sidewalk where she was standing……in 2014, a lawsuit was filed against PepsiCo claiming that Green and Anna S. Harrington—the black woman who portrayed the character of Aunt Jemima starting in 1935—were exploited by the company and cheated out of the monetary compensation they were promised……the plaintiffs were two of Harrington’s great-grandsons…..and they sought a 2 billion- dollar settlement for descendants of Green and Harrington…..the lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice and without leave to amend on February 18, 2015……since the riots and protests resulting from the death of George Floyd by Derek Chauvin……discussions resurfaced about the offensive nature of the Aunt Jemima character…..The Quaker Oats company announced that it would be removing the character from its iconic syrup line…..the company also announced that it would removing the character and renaming the brand to “make progress toward racial equality through several initiatives.”

TODAY’S HISTORY LESSON: THE BLACK LAWN JOCKEY (footman)……Remember those black statues people had on their lawns…..and many of us either thought…..later on in life that they were racist images of black people…..or just a light in front of someone house…..guess what?
These days people do not know the real meaning behind these statues, so they vandalize them, and think of them as racist……the history of the “black footman” with a lantern is the exact opposite…..its meaning signified that the home was a stop on the Underground Railroad…. these were largely a northern thing and were not commonly found in the South until after WWII when northerners moved there and brought this custom with them…..the clothing of the statue was also coded…..a striped jockey’s shirt meant that this was a place to swap horses, while a footman in a tailed coat meant overnight lodging and/or food, and a blue sailor’s waist coat meant the homeowner could take you to a port and get you on a ship to Canada…..later, these came back into popularity after WWII, and they were again coded. Mostly to show that the white homeowners supported early civil rights efforts, and were NOT Klan members…..these statues are something we should be proud of because they led a lot of people to their freedom and they also represent the bravery and support of the homeowner’s that risked their homes, themselves and their families for the struggle of freedom and equality.
