IRAN ARRESTS NOBEL PEACE PRIZE LAUREATE NARGES MOHAMMADI….Her supporters are saying….she was detained in Mashhad….northeast of Tehran….while attending a memorial for a human rights lawyer…..who was recently found dead….under unclear circumstances…..there has been no comments from Iran over her detention….and it isn’t clear if the authorities would immediately return her to prison to serve the rest of her term….she was serving a total of 31 years on charges….of acting against national security and spreading propaganda…..long story short…..she had an opinion and happened to be a woman expressing it….. “Iranians cannot know true peace under a regime that dominates every facet of their lives…..their peace is disrupted by surveillance, censorship, arbitrary arrest…..torture and the constant threat of violence”……her detention does come as Iran has been cracking down on intellectuals and other….Tehran struggles with sanction, an ailing economy and the fear of a renewed war with Israel…..her arrest could increase pressure from the West….at a time when Iran repeatedly signaled it wants new negotiations with the West over its nuclear program.
