…..Their story is so much more than just a baseball story…..this league had to deal with social injustice….the civil right movement and overcoming all of the adversity stacked against them…..there were so many stars playing in that league….and the word on the street is….many people never had a chance to see them play…and that’s a lie….their attendance was higher than Major League Baseball….the league that refused to let blacks play in….when black communities in the northern industrial cities started to grow….during the great migration of the 1920’s…..millions of African Americans fled the terror and oppression of the south….and Negro League clubs became a cultural touchstone….a place where inequality and injustice seemed to fade nine innings at a time….the Great Depression forced the original Negro National League to fold….and from 1927 to 1942….no official Negro World Series was held….still, black teams pushed on….all the success of some players became the leagues undoing….after Jackie Robinson broke baseball’s color barrier in 1947…most of the promising black players began entering MLB’s minor league system….which diluted the Negro League’s talent pool…..and by the end of the 1950’s….the league was gone for good…..because of segregation and racism….here are a few names who would have put many players in the Baseball’s Hall of Fame to shame….Leroy “Satchel” Paige…..they say he hit over 800 home runs….was one of the best pitcher’s ever and he is in the HoF…..Buck O’Neil…was a first baseman and became the first African American manager of a MLB team….later he was a member of the 18-member Baseball Hall of Fame Veterans Committee and he played an important role in the induction of six Negro League players….he’s in the HoF…..Josh Gibson….was a catcher and historians consider him one of the very best power hitters and catchers in the history of any league….he was called “the black Babe Ruth”….and Babe Ruth was called “the white Josh Gibson”…he never played in the major leagues because of the unwritten “gentleman’s agreement”….that prevent non-white players from participating….he’s in the HoF though…..still, MLB has a long way to go…..while roughly 40% of MLB players are of color…the league only has six minority managers, four minority general managers/heads of baseball operations and one minority owner…who is the Angel’s Arte Moreno….MLB’s exclusion of black players and executives is worse…..only 8.4% of players on 2019 opening day rosters were African American….until the hiring of Dusty Baker this off-season….the LA Dodgers Dave Roberts was the league’s only Black manager.
THE UNITED STATES PASSPORT…..At one time was one of the most sort after passports in the world….people would come from all over the world….to have a chance to become a citizen of what was once called “A Great Nation”….a nation where you could live your dream….become whomever you wanted to become….strive to be the best….have opportunities to provide for your family….whether they came legally or illegally…..people came….and that dream changed….when President Obama left office….and America changed….it was replaced by a callous person….a person who does not care about those he swore to protect and take care of….and yes he has proven over the past three years to his citizens…..that he is a liar, a cheat and will line his pockets with money from those who are willing to pay a price….to be part of his mob corporation….and reap the benefits….increase their financial situation….and not give of damn to those who suffer from it….yes, the world knows this and is still seeing it happen….and he has followers or believers who think he is making America great again….but one has to ask….what was wrong with America before?….when the New Year came in 2020….he proved to the world that he is incapable of doing just that….COVID-19 or the coronavirus changed everything….he showed the globe that he’s not a true leader….he showed the world he cannot lead….instead of admitting his own faults…he chooses to blame others….every nation took a stand against this unknown threat we’re dealing with….except him….his attitude towards it was…. “It is what it is and it will go away”….instead of working with those who have an idea on how to find a solution to this new global problem….he instead belittles them, ignores their advice, fired doctors because they disagreed with his it will go away theory….and chose to ignore it….while he played golf….and many people became ill….and died….and now he’s upset because other countries are not allowing American citizens into their country….and who would?….American needs to rethink their priorities with winter approaching….because the next wave could be more deadlier….many countries have containment programs in place….except for America….and they do not want any citizen coming across the pond with the possibility of infecting their citizens….and that’s why the new name for a U.S. passport is…… “THE CORONAVIRUS PASSPORT!”…..and now my home is viewed worldwide as the new…..Third World – Shithole Country…..and we lost the respect President Obama worked so hard to regain.
HERE’S A STORY ABOUT RACISM MANY DID NOT KNOW ABOUT…..The first actual Afro-Latino valedictorian of Harvard Law School, Pedro Albizu Campos graduated in 1921. He graduated while simultaneously studying Literature, philosophy, Chemical Engineering, and Military Science. He was fluent in six modern and two classical languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Latin, and ancient Greek…..Pedro was denied the valedictorian distinction by a professor who delayed his final grade to keep him from having the highest grade point average in the 1921 class. They wanted to avoid the “embarrassment” of having a black Puerto Rican be the valedictorian of one of the most prestigious law schools in the country…..Pedro Albizu Campos turned down a Supreme Court clerkship, multiple prestigious firm offers, and plum government appointments to go back to Puerto Rico and practice poverty law. Instead of making himself wealthy, he worked for folks and often receive payment in the form of chickens from poor farmers. He then began to lead the nascent independence movement of Puerto Rico. For this, he was targeted by Hoover’s FBI and eventually thrown in prison for leading the independence movement. At the time, it was illegal to fly the Puerto Rican flag…..Pedro Albizu Campos suffered for years in prison and was subject to horrific torture and human experiments. They experimented on him using radiation. This was at a time where the U.S. military deliberately exposed Puerto Rican men to mustard gas to see how it affected them. He later suffered a stroke after a decade in prison and was pardoned and released only to die months later in 1965.
