…..Nicole and I do not want those “Smart things” in our crib….Alexa, Siri, turn on the heat, lights thing…..no, never coming through the door…..the only thing we want “Smart” in our place…..is a “Brain”…..many people over here don’t have that tech in their houses or apartments…..computers and phones yeah, but like back home….nope…..when I’m home talking to mom and mention a word that “Box” recognizes….it speaks….and I want to unplug it…..anywho,…..computer programmer and electronics enthusiast Harishankar Narayanan….was shocked to find out….his $300 bucks smart vacuum bot….was transmitting serious data out of his home….he let his iLife A11….just clean away for about a year….until he wanted to know how the things inners guts work….he admits, “I’m a bit paranoid…..the good kind of paranoid”…..didn’t know there was a difference….curious yes, para…..nah, anyway….. “So I decided to monitor its network traffic…..as I would with any so-called smart device”……dude say in a few minutes….he discovered a “steady stream”….of data being sent to servers….and get this…. “Halfway across the world”….he was freaking out because…..it was communicating….constantly….with its manufacturer….transmitting log and telemetry that he never consented to share…..he said he made his first mistake when he decided to stop it….he stopped it from broadcasting data….but kept the other networks traffic active….updates and stuff….and it kept working for a few days and one morning it refused to boot up….he took it to a repair shop….they told him “It works fine”…..so he brought it back home….it worked for a few days and then died again….he ripped into that high tech toy….reverse engineering, reprinting circuit boards….testing its sensors and found something that scared the hell out of him….Android Debug Bridge….a program used for installing and debugging apps on devices….something that is wide open and available around the world….when he found a way to hook-up the vacs system to his computer…..my man found some more shocking stuff…..that spy was running Google Cartographer….an open-source program designed to create a 3D map of his home….data that was transmitted back to its parent company…..he came across a line of code broadcasted from the company to the vac…..time stamped to the exact moment it stopped working….. “Someone or something….had remotely issued a kill command”….Narayanan’s words not mine…..he added…. “The company that made the device had “the power” to remotely disable devices….and used it against me for blocking their data collection……whether it was intentional punishment of automated enforcement of “compliance”…..the result was the same….a consumer device had turned on its owner”…..he warns that dozens of smart vacuums are likely operating similar systems…… “Our homes are filled with cameras, microphones and mobile sensors connected to companies we barely know….all capable of being weaponized with a single line of code”…..this guy has a reason for his paranoia……maybe we should join him….or at least be a tiny bit more….curious…..and if you’re still “Pro-AI”…..here’s something for you…this happened in…..
