DANGEROUS FOODS FROM AROUND THE WORLD THAT CAN KILL YOU

…..Yeah, there are a few…..like….FUGU…..is known as a puffer fish…..it’s a delicacy served sashimi-style and is considered a gourmet dish in Japan….it has a substance in it’s body called tetrodotoxin….a defense mechanism to make them taste horrible to other fish….and this stuff is extremely poisonous….like up to 1,200 times stronger than a dose of potassium cyanide…..SANNAKJI….is another popular dish served in Asian countries…..mainly in Japan and South Korea….you may have tried sushi but this dish goes beyond dining on uncooked fish…..because the octopus is still alive and served with a little seasoning on a plate…..it’s literally still wiggling its tentacles while you chew on it….and if it isn’t chewed properly….its tentacles can get stuck on the edges of your throat and make breathing impossible and you can look forward to choking to death…..ACKEE….this fruit is a key part of ackee and saltfish…..Jamaica’s national dish…..a dish stir-fried or scrambled with other local products found on the island…..the colorful fruit with its fish-eye seeds looks fairly harmless…..but it can easily poison diners….if you eat an unripe askee fruit….you could succumb to a brutal metabolic illness known as Jamaican vomiting sickness….with a range of symptoms like seizures, hypothermia and you could end up in a coma….or die…..CASSAVA…..this plant feeds around 800 million people globally….and is a major dietary staple in many parts of Africa….it’s a root vegetable that contains some really healthy stuff….vitamin C, carbohydrates, vitamin B6, potassium, magnesium and protein….and it can grow in all types of different environments…..and all that sounds great but there’s one problem with this root….it contains dangerous levels of cyanide….and eating it uncooked has led to many cases of cyanide poisoning….which lead to headaches, dizziness, rapid pulse, convulsions and disorientation…..CASU MARZU…..now this rare cheese is specially made by shepherds on the island of Sardinia…..and this delicacy is a cheese made famous for being filled with maggots….and the name directly translates to…. “rotting cheese”…..flies lay their eggs inside the cracks of pecorino cheese….the maggots hatch out of the eggs….and digest the cheese as they move through it….even the Guinness World Records Book called it the most dangerous cheese in 2009….it’s banned for commercial sale and is illegal in many countries…..experts believe the maggots could survive in a person’s stomach acid….and end up boring holes into the eaters intestines…..but there haven’t been any documented cases yet…..AFRICAN BULLFROG…..now this is a highly dangerous delicacy…..and is still one of the most sought-after dishes you can find in Nambia….you don’t just eat the legs….they eat the entire body of the frog….and exposes the diners to even more toxins…..they can grow to be the same size of your average cat….which means there’s a lot of yummy meat to eat…..and a great deal of poison….the toxins inside the frog’s organs and coating its skin…..have been know to trigger kidney failure….and death…..FESIKH…..and welcome to Egypt…..the spring season is welcomed with a festival called….Shem-el-Nessim….and the occasion is celebrated by eating fesikh….which is a curious name meaning “rotten fish”…..they way the fish is prepared is by drying a gray mullet fish in the sun…covered in salt and leaves for as long as a year…..the only drawback is that fish prepared in this way….can be a major risk for botulism….an illness that attacks the body’s nervous system…..this fish is so dangerous that the Egyptian Health Ministry issues warnings before the holiday each year….telling people not to eat it…..and deaths are not uncommon….in 2018….two women suffered from botulism after eating fesikh…..in New Jersey…..MONKEY BRAINS….now this is a traditional specialty in many of the best places to visit in Southeast Asia and China…..many people believe that eating the brain can improve their sex life or impart untold wisdom….unfortunately, the monkey is treated very unethically….and many people from the region consider the dish cruel….because it’s sometimes served while the animal is still alive….and using it’s skull as a bowl….eating raw monkey brain causes something called Creutzfeldt-jakob disease….this affliction is similar to Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE)….and the symptoms are terrifying….you start to lose your vision….slowly fall into a  dementia-like state….before you eventually die……HÁKARL…..is a fermented shark meat that’s a popular snack in Iceland and it’s one of the many things in Iceland that can kill you….you slice up the meat….bury it for months before it is ready to be hung to dry in traditional structures….if all is done correctly….you’re good to go…if not….consuming raw shark meat is dangerous….shark bodies have been found to carry high levels of toxic substances…..like mercury and trinethylamine oxide…..that can make humans sick if you eat improperly prepared meat….KIVIAQ…..now let’s swim over to Greenland….it’s common for most people to eat whale blubber and reindeer….but kiviaq is one of the few dishes that can kill you….this traditional Inuit dish has such an intense preparation method that it’s bordering on disturbing….first you have to catch a seal and hollow out its body so that only the skin remains….then the carcass is stuffed with around 300 to 500 little auks…..the local bird…..then the whole thing is stitched up and buried under rocks for up to 18 months….by the end of this process….the entire bird is eaten raw….bones and all….since it’s prepared over such a long time….this is a big chance of suffering from food poisoning……BLOOD SOUP…..this dish is enjoyed in countries like Vietnam and Thailand…..blood soup is exactly what it is…..fresh animal blood that has been lightly seasoned, mixed with lemongrass to purify it….and topped with crispy noodles, pork skin and other ingredients….and there is a long list of diseases that can be contracted from consuming raw animal blood in this way….like Streptococcus suis…..this is a pathogen that will cause you to experience…..hearing loss and symptoms similar to meningitis, headaches and fever….and you can suddenly die from it…..STAR FRUIT…..adding star fruit to your diet has several health benefits….it offers anti-inflammatory properties….it is a antioxidant and can prevent things like heart disease….but it can be a deadly snack for people who have kidney disease…..if you have kidney problems….the neurotoxins in the fruit never get expelled….and can create some serious issues for you…..if you’re suffering from star fruit poisoning you might be a little disoriented or even have the hiccups…..RAW CASHEW….most of us think cashews are harmless but this nut starts off extremely toxic…..they contain a toxin called urushiol which can cause a rash reaction similar to poison ivy…..the majority of this poisonous components are found in the space between the cashew shell and the nut itself….once the nuts are roasted at high temperatures….the toxins are eliminated and the nut is safe to eat…..eating them before the cleaning process is not a good idea and can have horrifying results….scratching, sensitivity to tremors, lethargy and death….this is why cashews are never sold in the shell….while the cashews in the nut section at your local store are safe to consume…..you still might think twice….before you pop one in your mouth.
